Well Situated Village Inn at Winston in delightful Teesdale, County Durham, it is only a few minutes walk to the outstanding landmark bridge over the river Tees, near to Barnard Castle, Staindrop, Gainford, Piercebridge, Whorlton and Ovington, only a few minutes more from Darlington, Richmond and Weardale. We have our own large car park, so easy and safe parking. Not far to travel for quality restaurant fare and  traditional pub food.


A Listed Historic Building, constructed in 1851 as the Winston Church of England School and was extensively  refurbished and finally reopened as a quality restaurant and pub. Enjoy restaurant or pub food in the comfortable lounge bar, complete with wonderful log fire and a great drink selection.  If you fancy eating out and you're staying in the Barnard Castle area of Teesdale, why not come and see for yourself?

Our restaurant has a seating capacity of 37 and there the bar lounge has seating for 24. Have a look around our lovely building and find out more about us and opening times. If you intending dining out in Teesdale, we are within minutes of Barnard Castle, Staindrop, Gainford and Caldwell.  The Bridgewater Arms at Winston is an ideal restaurant for those special occasions or if your eating out preference is a more casual great pub food experience, we can do that too..

Real Ale, Fine Lagers and Excellent Wines

We have an excellent and varied wine list as before but as we are no longer subject to the constraints of being tied to Greene King, we can now further enhance our reputation for excellent real ales in our pub.  Our regulars will be able to continue to enjoy the flavours of Timothy Taylors and a much more varied range of guest beers throughout the year.

How about a walk down to the Winston bridge, imagine the spitfire flying beneath it, then along the river banks, back up through the woods towards the church, take in the view, then call in the village pub for a lovely, refreshing pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord.  20 minutes for the walk, as long as you llke in the pub!
